Emergency

A flat tyre at the wrong moment can be genuinely dangerous. Here's exactly what to do if you experience a blowout or puncture on Scottish roads — and how Response Mobile Tyres can help.

Getting a flat tyre or blowout while driving in Scotland can be a stressful, even dangerous experience. Knowing exactly what to do in those first moments can make the difference between a minor inconvenience and a serious accident.

Step 1 — Stay Calm and Pull Over Safely

If you feel a sudden change in vehicle handling, a loud bang, or see a warning light, don't brake sharply. Ease off the accelerator, grip the steering wheel firmly, and guide the car to the nearest safe stopping point — ideally a lay-by, car park, or hard shoulder.

Switch on your hazard warning lights immediately and keep them on for the duration of the stop.

Step 2 — Make Yourself Visible

If you have a warning triangle, place it at least 45 metres behind your vehicle. Put on a high-visibility vest if available and stay well away from moving traffic at all times.

Step 3 — Call Response Mobile Tyres

This is where emergency tyre repair becomes straightforward. Rather than attempting to fit a spare on a busy roadside, call your nearest Response Mobile Tyres number. Our 24 hour call out service dispatches a qualified technician directly to your location — whether you're on the A720 Edinburgh bypass or a rural road in Perthshire.

We carry a comprehensive range of tyres in our vans and can typically have you back on the road within 30-45 minutes of arrival.

What if I Have a Temporary Spare?

Space-saver and temporary spare tyres are only intended for low-speed, short-distance use — typically 50mph maximum and no more than 50 miles. If you've fitted a temporary spare, call us to arrange a proper emergency tyre repair or replacement at your next stop.
